Access Points to Confidence #8 - Change Your Mind

Neuroscientist and author of Making Sense, Sam Harris said:

“There is nothing on Earth more powerful than human thought. Apart from an immediate asteroid impact, ideas are the most powerful forces of nature we ever encounter.”

To help this sink in, all you need do is take a look around you – from wherever you are right now.

If you’re sitting on a chair, it’s likely human thought built and designed it. If you’re reading this on a phone or computer, human thought designed and built that too – and the same applies to whatever it is you’re wearing.

It’s human thought that built the roads, the houses, the institutions and organisations we live in, drive on and work in every day.

In fact, unless you’re looking at the sea, sky or a mountain, there’s likely nothing in your vision that hasn’t been built by human thought.

Our ability to invent something that didn’t previously exist is astounding.  We have a natural talent to make things up - and we do it all the time.

Thoughts fuel our creativity.

As well as inventing the things around you, thoughts also create the story of your life.

Repeated over time, they make up the sentences that build a narrative about who you think you are and how you describe yourself.

Just as humans have designed better bridges, better roads, more comfortable clothes and more sustainable housing, the power of your thoughts can also be used to build greater levels of confidence.

All you have to do is change your mind.

Change your mind about the existing narratives you listen to that hold you back.

Change your mind about the old stories you tell yourself that are no longer be true.

Change your mind about what you believe is possible for you.

Leveraging the power of human thought to change your mind is an access point to confidence.
